so long she’d run — she screamed her shouts
unlearned the world through frightful bouts
taught to seek that one within
the Goddess who she might’ve been
called to search out ways of grace
a girl, some boy, her sacred place
they’d made her want it all at once
her broken heart would paint the dunce
she turned and ran into Earth’s grasp
Great Mother’s hands would heal the past
such fear had struck that boy she’d been
still hiding deep beneath their skin
to lose that self would be a fright
his death would prove her darkest night
he’d gashed her bloody, made her cry
burned her wings up in the sky
tried for naught to fight his end
that grimmest reaper ‘round the bend
even she had bought his lies
devil’s born into her eyes
at last, in peace, released; the tree
this girl was where she’s meant to be
