We were once, collectively and as individuals, driven by a voice tapped into something far beyond our rational minds. However, for many of us, our modern civilization and its institutions have effectively trained us to disregard this voice's guidance. This is a voice that comes from inside—from within our hearts. It's the voice that reminds us of the magic all around us. It's the voice that teaches us how to forgive. It’s a voice that teaches us we’re a part of something greater than we could ever understand from our own limited perspective. It's the voice which lets us know we're loved.
While we can still hear this deeper voice of truth, it becomes drown out by the anxieties and stigmas of a society that projects unfair expectations onto us all. We're turned against it. Some of us even become so ashamed of what it tells us about ourselves, we stop listening, and belittle ourselves for the comfort of a society that does not serve our highest good. Because of this entire vicious cycle, some of us have become so embittered that we'll ridicule others who don’t sacrifice themselves in the same way.
It’s never too late to reclaim this voice which always persists inside us. With patience, we can teach ourselves to hear it once again. When we quiet our minds, strip down our anxieties, and unplug from the modern systems of control—which wind us up and set our minds alight with worry—we'll find the voice has never left us. It’s been waiting patiently; knowing we would eventually return, having remembered how to listen.
