It Was Right Then

a poem

if you ever wondered how and when

I’ll just tell you now it was right then

that morning you fell back asleep

upon my chest and brought me peace

your little shudders, they did shake

something within my soul to wake

the morning sun shined in so bright

I knew I’d want you every night

I knew your boundary had been crossed

no taking back, my heart was lost

to holding you and making prayers

for peace to greet you everywhere

to make you smile, for how it felt

within my heart to watch you melt

my one regret, I drifted off

went someplace else, not in my spot

my hope from there was plain and clean

to steal more moments just like these

they never came, then all was lost

I got that one, well worth the cost
