My Unholy Ghost

a poem

within the darkness of my room

a spectral force—unknowing gloom



each other there, this beast and I

together forge such ugly lies



brake deepest vows, plant our bombs

around the town, then light them up



taking others with us there

who'd otherwise be unaware



better off without me near

plunging deep to meet my fear



it’s here I learn the very most

finding my unholy ghost



haunting there my deepest dark

plotting ways to make its mark



it's just the way it has to be

him and I—it and me
