‘twas too much for one heart to take,
love’s terrible grace
ever pouring upon and from her
she’d beg
her flowing tears
such stress upon a gentle soul
this calloused world
that whale’s weight bearing down
she’d graft it to her side
knit herself a scarf
kneading with her hands
the mind to rot and perish
this greatest load would not be borne
two hearts it would take
nothing else contained such heat
stability within her inferno — a child’s dream
to not be burnt-up in its flames
at peace within herself
holding what was born inside — inspired love
found, that one to sit beside
becoming all she knew there was to be
home again
her prayers to earth such songs of sorrow
begged plainly 'til the end
please help me live
let me be free
